Global Competence
PERSPECTIVE
AWARENESS
FIU's Global Learning program teaches what I believe to be an essential perspective in global analysis: the ability to take an argument or issue out of your own cultural perspective and view it through the eyes of another. This, above all, enables globally educated students to stand apart and fully embrace the credo "World's Ahead".

Coming into the Excellence in Global Learning program, I identified this competency (global perspective) as an area I intended to stregthen and develop. Through Tuesday Times Roundtable discussions I got regular practice in removing my cultural norm and worldview from the forefront while analyzing global issues. The discussions helped me to work through differing opinions and understand reasonings opposed to mine.
An indispensable factor in becoming a global citizen is realizing that the world operates first as a cohesive unit and then in its respective states. As a long-time advocate of global awareness I used my time and resources within the Global Learing cirriculum to focus on developing a complex understanding of the interconnectedness of our nations. I analyzed events like the British secession from the European Union and how it affected the U.S. and global markets to better understand the global network.
ENGAGEMENT
I believe intercultural and global engagement is a part of every person's civic duty to the world. To create a better world for our families and beyond we must strive to understand not only ourselves but people, places, ideas, and events far beyond our physical and cultural reaches.
FUTURE
Following my undergraduate career I plan to further my studies in intercultural competence by pursuing a post-graduate degree in Global Affairs in Europe. Professionally I hope to join the BBC traineeship program and study at the BBC Academy of Journalism before embarking on my journey to inspire global awareness to people around the world.

FIU has equipped me with important talents and a world's ahead mindset to set a strong foundation for my future in global learning and intercultural communication. My ultimate goal is to never stop learning or challening myself while paving the way for others to actively seek a life of global competence.
